Anyone who purchased a music cd distributed by Sony Music and ran it on their computer should immediately run the fix. Anyone who has this
'copy protection' installed is prone to many discovered exploits in this so called 'copy proection'. Here is the available patch:
It seems that some newly distributed Sony Music Cd's come with a type of copy protection that installs 'Rootkits" on your system. Basically when you put in a music CD that has this protection, a program gets automatically installed and continuously runs in the background. Currently this is not a serious threat but it can potentially lead to remote exploitation and/or system instability.
Here is a list of excellent security practices for both the novice and expert internet user.
1) Separate User Accounts -- By having separate user accounts, it is believed that one can segment your sensitive activities in one account, and then switch accounts for general use.
2) Delete Internet History -- I do this regularly, though I am not sure if it is out of paranoia or to just free up disk space on my hard drive but it may help in some instances.
A few new varients of viruses and worms are out this week. You may have seen emails (with attachments) offering free tickets for the 2006 World Cup, Osama Capture pics or warnings of having your email account cancelled. Ignore all these emails and update your virus definitions!
As usual, these viruses are attached to messages as zip files. Obviously you should not open these emails.

Many times they ask you to retype your user identification, Access Card number, Social Security number and other private information. These techniques are called 'Phising scams'.
It seems a new virus by the name of 'Sober.Q' is filling up many mailboxes spamming political propaganda. This virus/mass mail worm is not financially motivated for a change. Either way, keep yourself secured, try not to use any Outlook products and keep your virus definitions up to date.
